The Teacher Academy for K-12
Overview
The Teacher Academy K-12 program is designed to prepare students who are interested in pursuing a degree or career in education. This program engages students in developing a realistic understanding of teaching while exploring the importance and impact of educators. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to sustain their interest in the profession and cultivate the abilities needed to become successful educators. Through classroom and field experiences relevant to pursuing a degree in education, students will gain insight into the rigors of a career in teaching. The program prepares students for a variety of careers in education, including elementary teacher, secondary teacher, paraprofessional, and special education teacher.

Learning Experience
Students in the Teacher Academy K-12 program participate in a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on field experiences, providing them with a comprehensive understanding of the education profession. The curriculum emphasizes culturally relevant pedagogy, the importance of meeting the needs of all learners, and the development of skills essential for future educators. Students will also have opportunities to earn dual enrollment credits, further preparing them for their post-secondary education and career in teaching.

Employment opportunities available with senior year co-op and after graduation:
Assistant teacher, child care assistant, child care worker, camp counselor, instructional paraeducator
Employment opportunities requiring specialized training after graduation:
Elementary teacher, secondary teacher, adult literacy teacher, special education teacher, elementary or secondary administrator, librarian/media specialist, curriculum director, speech therapist, guidance counselor, school psychologist
Earning Potential Range:
$13.25/hr to $17/hr, with higher earning potential for those pursuing a two- or four-year degree.

*The Teacher Academy program offered at Howard HS of Technology will encompass both Early Childhood and K-12.
